Pilot Plants are small scale chemical processing systems, which generate vital information to be, used in the design of full-scale process and production facilities. Not only do Pilot Plants reduce the financial risk associated with building larger facilities, but they also test process feasibility and accommodate process refinement.
Fluid Metering’s valveless, ceramic pumps have proven to be ideal for pilot plant fluid control. The sapphire-hard internal components of Fluid Metering pumps eliminate accuracy drift typical of pumping systems that rely on elastomers, (flexible tubing and diaphragms), to move fluid through the pump…

The clinical version of the successful Model 360 Flame Photometer from Sherwood Scientific adds sodium linearization for simple calibration, providing a low-cost instrument with unrivalled precision, ergonomic design and ease of maintenance.
As a world-leader in flame photometry Sherwood Scientific is renowned for developing instruments with the highest levels of stability and reliability. The Clinical Model 360 is a single channel unit built around the same mixing chamber, burner stem and burner head found in Sherwood’s acclaimed Model 410. It also incorporates automatic flame optimisation technology from the company’s dual channel 420 series. As a result the Clinical 360 is fundamentally more stable, less noisy and with lower limits of detection than would be expected in such a cost-effective instrument…

In the UK it is recommended that no more than 50 litres of highly flammable solvent be stored in a single workspace using cabinets referred to in such documents as DSEAR 2002 (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations) and HSG 51 from the Health and Safety Executive (Storage of Flammable Liquids in Containers.) These normally refer to single skinned metal cabinets manufactured according to BS 476 .However subject to a thorough risk assessment, the 50 litre recommendation can be exceeded when using high specification safety cabinets such as those manufactured according to BS EN 14470-1.
Cabinets designed and built to comply with BS EN 14470-1 offer vastly superior protection over single or double wall steel cabinets to BS476…

In vivo imaging of small animals for pre-clinical research using fluorescent markers is a novel approach to visualize cellular processes occurring at the micron level. There is growing interest in understanding what occurs at the level of tumor metastasis through direct visualization. For example, studies show that it is possible to use green fluorescent protein (GFP) and red fluorescent protein (RFP) labeled tumor cells to observe their behavior in the vasculature in vivo, such as tumor shedding and extravagation . The iBox Explorer Imaging Microscope, for visualization of the tumor microenvironment both accurately and reliably, will expand the understanding of the mechanism of metastasis. The ability to view fluorescence ranging from the organ level down to the cellular level can add valuable information of in vivo processes…

Now available through SLS and a new addition to the PIPETMAN® range is PIPETMAN® G which offers the lowest pipetting forces in the market. Unlike the other manual pipettors in the PIPETMAN® range which utilise a dry-seal piston, Pipetman G incorporates a completely redesigned and lubricated piston system. This has resulted in pipetting forces being reduced by upto 50% vs PIPETMAN® Neo whilst maintaining Gilson’s reputation for robustness.
The introduction of a lubricated piston on a manual pipette is a first for Gilson but the PIPETMAN® Concept electronic pipettor has always utilised a lubricated piston. The decision to retain the dry-seal system over the rest of the PIPETMAN® range was driven by a number of factors…
